Baker Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture General Meeting
2024 at The Corner at 12:00pm

Alissa Called the meeting to order at 12:04pm
Approval of Minutes: Karol motioned to approved the March minutes with corrections, Steve seconded motion, all in favor, motion carried
Executive Director Report: The Chamber will be having a booth at the Health Fair on April 24th and will also have a booth at the Career Fair on April 25th. The Easter Egg hunt at local businesses took place March 23rd-29th, the winning ticket was drawn on March 30th on Facebook live. Nobody claimed the ticket. I drew for another winner on Tuesday April 2nd. Mariah is resigning from her position as Executive Director/Rec Director, her last day will be April 26, 2024.
Rec Director Report: We will set up for Baker Jam on Saturday April 6th starting at 2:00pm, games will start at 8:00am on Sunday April 7th. Kinder-5th grade track will start April 9th and end on May 14th with the track meet being set for May 16th starting at 5:30. Preschool Playtime at the Museum will start April 11th and end on May 17th.

Quarterly Sponsorship
Reminder the Chamber is sending out quarterly sponsorships this year for Rec Department programs, the new forms will be mailed out by the end of the month

The Tentative date for Crazy Dayz/Nightz/3 on 3 is July 12th and 13th
New Board Member
The Baker Chamber Board would like to introduce Kayleigh Straub, she joined the board on April 3rd at the Chamber’s Board meeting.

Report from Members
Jennefer- Working diligently on getting the 2024 Fallon County Fair ready, the night shows are announced Tigerlily Gold will open for Chancy Williams
Roy- 3 bids to remove the building at the fairgrounds, Griffith Excavating got the bid, the building will be coming down shortly, The Chamber of Commerce with the 50 million dollar grant was submitted in time, if the Montana Chamber gets the grant, Fallon County’s allocation will be 14 million dollars. They are hoping to know by July of this year
Melissa- April 4th 5:30-7:00pm the Museum will have a public meeting for a preliminary architectural report with SDI, they will be coming to get public input. The participation registration is open for MOMSI,if you sign up for MOMSI you get a gift certificate for the Museum gift shop, if you complete three visits and survey you get entered into the drawing for $100 gift card for the Museum gift shop.Heritage Fest is set for June 1st
Karol- The Next Lunch & Learn will be Friday April 19th,2024 from NOON to 1:00pm in the FMC Dining Room. Michele Moser will be speaking at this event. She is a RN, and Tobacco Education Specialist. The Health Fair is set for April 25th, blood drawing will run from 6:00am-12:00pm, there will be a free-will breakfast. The Talk Around Town is available, get information to Karol a few weeks in advance and she will get it on The Talk Around Town
Steve- The City has a new call in number for the City Council meetings, the new number is 604-472-5156, the code 1323473. This number allows the public to call in and interact during the meetings. The street sweeping has begun, clean up week is April 27th-May 5th, hours are 11:00am-8:00pm, except for wednesday and two saturdays opens at 8:30am-8:00pm. Two summer hire positions open for 16 years and older starting wage is $17 an hour, if they return for the next season there will be a $0.50 increase. The City also has a full time position available starting a little over $21.00 an hour. The City has contracted with Bo Lingle for the Parks maintenance, baseball season started, they will be indoor until the end of April. EMEDA has two units under contract, one is residential style modular home, there will be another unit that will be commercial, this will be leased to Headstart. Both are contracted and should be delivered by June 30th, there will be a parking lot on 7th St East right across from the city park, with two row parking.
Vaughn- Updated on how the childcare project is going and the economic impact it can bring to the community. The Women in Blue Jeans event was on March 19th, 150 people went to the event. They had five subjects at the event. They are hopeful to do another round of Women in Blue Jeans at the Art Walk on July 13th. The Photos used for the Women in Blue Jeans event can be used by the individuals in the pictures to promote their own businesses. SMART, the City, County and Chamber can use the landscape photos to promote Baker or the Ag Industry. If you are a business who wants to join in on the Art Walk you must be open on Saturday July 13th. Flooring for the Visitor Center is here, they are hoping by the end of April to get the Visitor Center moved in there. April 3rd was the first nonprofit happy hour at the Old School Brewery, this will hopefully become a monthly event. Grid United Grant deadline is May 1, 2024
Kevin- The County is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent, Doug Varner is stepping in until they can get the position filled
Tammy- The Newspaper is busy working on Graduation
Marty- Adamson’s will build the deck around the Clubhouse, Baker Metal will do the railings, there will be sections for businesses to put their logos for advertisement
Josey- Busy working on flowers for Mother’s Day
