Baker Chamber of Commerce Minutes - June 3, 2021, Heiser’s patio

Members present: Tammy O’Donnell, Karol Zachmann, Alissa Miller, Mary Lou Ryden, Dean Wang, Steve Zachmann, Gretchen Mahon

Vice President Alissa Miller called the meeting to order.

Dean moved and Steve seconded to approve May minutes. All in favor. Minutes approved

Financial: LIFTT asked for discounted membership since they are a non-profit. Yesterday, the board approved charging them 1/2 price or $125.00 this year since it is June. 

OLD BUSINESS:

Executive Director position: Position is being advertised as a joint position with SMART. 20 hours Chamber and 20 hours SMART.

Main Street Banners: Contact EPEDC for measurements and details

NEW BUSINESS:

Scholarship recipients are Tylee Loehding, Ekalaka; Trinity Rieger, Plevna; Macy Varner and Bryce Shelhamer, Baker

High School Rodeo Finals calcutta, 50/50 June 10: We have volunteers lined up to sell 50/50 tickets. Karol will e-mail all volunteers as a reminder. Alissa and Trish will do the calcutta. We have to provide ring men to get bids. Will need 1 per section, so 4-5 people. Will meet at 6:15 in front of the grandstands.

Youth Rec Department: We discussed taking on the Rec Department and having our director deal with registration for youth events. Would need to talk to the city about using the equipment and the county to see about start up funding.

Crazy Days, 3 on 3 basketball tournament: Will be held July 9 & 10. Will have courts at Bank of Baker parking lot, Russell’s parking lot and the youth center. Grades 3-6 will be Friday and 7-12 on Saturday. We used all our prizes up last year, so Alissa will order T shirts for prizes and for the refs.

REPORTS:

Gretchen Mahon, Grasslands FCU: June 15 the credit union will be giving free hot dogs at the baseball games. There is a sign up on their new building location.

Mary Lou Ryden, Lions Club: Thanks to Dean Wang for sending them two helpers to plant trees in Centennial Park. They planted 12 trees they got from Little Beaver Conservation District. The Lions Governor of Montana, Dist. 37, Mike Collins, came to their May meeting. He gave them tips on how to recruit members. Their two $500 scholarship winners were Dacy Buerkle and Trinity Rieger. Bingo is finished for the spring. They may have it later in the summer.

Karol Zachmann, FMC: They are holding an outdoor raffle that they will award winners at the Mammo Whammo golf tournament June 12. A new provider, DeDe Anders started June 1. They are installing a new security system for Long Term Care.

Karol Zachmann, SMART: They interviewed four people for the SMART director position. They hired Vaughn Zenko as the new director.

Steve Zachmann, Mayor, City of Baker: The water main project may be done by the 1st part of July. 1st St. East was added to the project. Paving will start mid-June. They are looking for 2 seasonal employees. The city will get $450,000 in the next 2 years in installments for sewer, water, etc. from an ARPA grant.

EMEDA: The daycare is still being planned.

Alissa Miller, EPEDC: The Heritage Fest is June 12. They are planning it along with the museum. There are ARPA funds available for the Dept. of Ag. $50 million in 3 tiers is coming out. Farmers Markets could qualify. Alissa is on the Agri-tourism committee. Beth Epley will be back from maternity leave next week.

Karol moved and Tammy seconded to adjourn the meeting. All in favor. Meeting adjourned.
