Baker Chamber of Commerce Board Minutes - May 6, 2021, Corner Bar

Members present: Jade Boggs, Tammy O’Donnell, Karol Zachmann, Alissa Miller, Melissa Higbee, Merri Beck, Mary Lou Ryden, Rose Sampson, Debbi Varner, Maria Braun, Gretchen Mahon, Shyla Hadley, Rolph Tunby, Tasha Losing, Emily Medearis, Dean Wang, Steve Zachmann, Mona Madler

President Jade Boggs called the meeting to order.

Karol moved and Mary Lou seconded to approve April minutes. All in favor. Minutes approved

OLD BUSINESS:

2021 Budget Committee: Budget committee presented the 2021 budget. Audit should be done this month

Executive Director position: We need to meet with SMART to determine wages, benefits & duties.

High School Rodeo/Calcutta: June 10, 7 p.m. for Extreme Broncs. Alissa will order tickets from BOSS for the 50/50 drawing. Volunteers for the 50/50 are Mona Madler, Christina Gaub, Melissa Higbee, Margie & Elyse Losing, Jade Boggs and Maria Braun. Trish Barth and Alissa Miller will run the calcutta. We will put together the welcome bags. Businesses need to drop the items off at the Bank of Baker by June 1 when we get together to fill them.

Job Fair: There were most 20 tables. There was good feedback from the kids. We will host it again next year and donate $100 toward door prizes. Will try to schedule between fall and winter sports.

NEW BUSINESS:

Car Show: Saturday, June 5 in the Bank of Baker parking lot if the water project allows it, otherwise they will move it. They will have vendors at the event.

Main Street banners: The oilfield banner that was up started ripping from the wind. Will suggest using mesh banners.

Scholarship committee of Tammy O’Donnell, Karol Zachmann and Trish Barth will meet to choose recipients. 

Ace Hardware Grand Reopening will be May 15. They will have giveaways and a food truck will be there.

Maria Braun suggested the Chamber encourage businesses to dress up for the HS rodeo.

Crazy Days/3 on 3 basketball tournament: We need to set a date. Will check on date of Boarzie Baseball tournament.

Jade passed a sheet from the Consumer Energy Alliance. They will be coming the end of June and want to speak with businesses and will video interviews regarding the impact of the oil business.

REPORTS: Karol Zachmann, Friends of FMC: Mammo Whammo will be June 12. They are doing a Backyard Fun Raffle with items purchased locally. They will draw winners at the tournament.

Steve Zachmann, Mayor, City of Baker: Municipal Clerk Week honored Kevin Dukart and Brenda Dietz. The council presented Kim Cuppy with the Citizen of the Year award. They opened bids for the street improvement project. Additional feet of waterline will be completed because of some cost savings. They will bore under the highways so the intersection won’t be closed. Hope to be done by mid-July.

Melissa Higbee, EPEDC: They are helping with the Heritage Fest June 12. They will have activities, Cowboy poet, speakers & live music. Planning is going well.

Trish Barth: Pat Harrison Memorial Golf Tournament will be June 26. Proceeds for this tournament go to someone in need.

Shyla Hadley, Fair manager: She passed out Extreme Broncs posters.Tickets are on sale on the website. High School rodeo is June 7-12. Thursday and Friday are free admission. Saturday is $10.00 admission. Program ads are being sold. There will be a circus on June 1. It is the same one as 2 years ago. Fair is August 17-22. Tickets go on sale June 14. They are still working on a plan for the midway.

Rolph Tunby, Lions Club: They will have the last bingo on the 16th. They planted trees in and around Centennial Park. They groom the park, plant flowers, mow, weed eat and other upkeep during the year. They award 2 $500.00 college scholarships to Fallon County graduates.

Tasha Losing has been doing a lot of traveling with her food trailer. 

Trish moved and Alissa seconded to adjourn the meeting. All in favor. Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting is Wednesday, June 2 at noon at Heiser’s.
