Baker Chamber of Commerce Minutes - April 8, 2021, Thee Garage

Members present: Jade Boggs, Tammy O’Donnell, Karol Zachmann, Dean Wang, Steve Zachmann, Mary Lou Ryden, Christina Gaub, Roy & Melissa Rost, Gretchen Mahon, Aaron Skogen, Shyla Hadley, Mona Madler, Rolph Tunby, Emily Medearis

President Jade Boggs called the meeting to order.

Karol moved and Aaron seconded to approve March minutes. All in favor. Minutes approved

Jade announced that the board appointed Mary Grube to the Chamber board at the meeting yesterday.

OLD BUSINESS:

2021 Budget Committee: Marge, Karol, Trish and Alissa will meet Thurs., April 22 at noon at the Chamber office

Executive Director position: Mary Grube, SMART and Karol Zachmann, EMEDA,  proposed at the board meeting that we share a position as Chamber director/ office manager for SMART & EMEDA.

Member list: Karol presented a paid member list. Visit MT offered to list our businesses on their website.

High School Rodeo/Calcutta: June 10, 7 p.m. for Extreme Broncs. Jade got approval from the gaming board for us to do the calcutta. We also need volunteers to do the 50/50 drawing at the event. Tammy passed around a sign up sheet for volunteers. We will put together the welcome bags. Businesses need to drop the items off at the Bank of Baker by June 1 when we get together to fill them.

NEW BUSINESS:

Baker Jam Basketball Tourney: There are 60+ teams registered. Two food trucks will serve - one at each venue. Dean will take picnic tables to the church parking lot.

Job Fair: Thursday, April 29 at Baker High School. There will be a meeting April 9 to plan. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will attend. Local companies and 2 colleges have said they will be there.

Car Show: Saturday, June 5 in the Bank of Baker parking lot.

Main Street banners: Baker Metal got measurements between the poles in front of the Insurance Store and will make brackets to hang the signs. MDT and City of Baker have given approval and the banners are here. Board approved that the Chamber donates up to $455.00 if needed for permits.

REPORTS:

Dean Wang has found 2 cello players and violin players and wants to hold concerts on church night and possibly at Compass Coffee.

Emily Medearis announced that the Baker Ace Grand Re-Opening will be held May 15.

Christina Gaub - Baker Baseball Assn. is looking for banner sponsors to be installed at the field. Bank of Baker donated scoreboards. Games start in 2 weeks.

D&M Solutions are offering 2-$500 scholarships for energy/trade schools or related fields.

Karol Zachmann, FMC: Health Fair is April 28 from 6-11 am. No students will attend this year. There will be blood pressure, glucose test, Vitalent, grab n go breakfast, COVID vaccination clinic - Must call public health to get on list. Masks are requested. The Mammo Whammo golf tournament will be in June.

Steve Zachmann, Mayor City of Baker: The water project is starting. Temporary water lines are in the streets and exterior spigots are being installed to give temporary water. They will be disconnecting water on empty lots that don’t want it. Approximately May 1 will start downtown work and will be completed downtown in approximately 2 weeks. They have instituted an app notification system. They will be milling some streets next week.

Aaron Skogen, Superintendent Baker Schools: There will be a mill levy election May 4. They plan to have an indoor graduation and hope to be high capacity. Spring events are in progress.

Shyla Hadley, Fair manager: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is fair concert. They are looking for ticket takers for Extreme Broncs during the High School Rodeo as well as for the fair. She has a job opening for an assistant. Cowboy Prom will take place again during the HS Rodeo. This is Baker’s last year with the State High School rodeo.

Roy Rost, Fallon County Commissioner: Docks are being installed in the lake. Geese are damaging the wetlands so they had to regrid them to protect them. They have to be maintained for 5 years as part of the litigation. Denbury’s CO2 pipeline is still coming this year.

Melissa Rost, Museum: They are going to host a Heritage Fest June 12. There will be Wagon rides from the museum to downtown, petting zoo and other activities. They are looking for volunteers to help with some of the activities.

Rolph Tunby, Baker Lions Club: April 18 will be Bingo from 2-4 p.m. They give a scholarship of $1000 and it is on the school website.

Gretchen Mahon, Grasslands Federal Credit Union: They are hosting a Pay-It-Forward breakfast April 20 from 6-9 am at Cabin Creek Cafe.

Tammy O’Donnell announced that the Fallon County Times has new owners. Little Missouri Media are owners, Badlands Patriots, the management company.

Steve moved and Christina seconded to adjourn the meeting. All in favor. Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting is Thursday, May 6 at noon.
