October 2019 Minutes

President Jade Boggs called meeting to order. Asked for approval of September minutes. Karol moved to do so with corrections, Darlene seconded, all in favor.

OLD BUSINESS: Fairgrounds dishes: Commissioners approved purchasing the dishes. Chamber will

donate $1500 which is proceeds from fundraisers held for the purchase of dishes

Fall Festival: Duck Races were held Sept. 14 since the fall festival was cancelled Sept. 7 due to weather. The duck races made $680. The duck race course needs some work before the event next year. Dean suggested asking the vo-ag program to work on it. It was suggested we move the event to coordinate with the SAL rib cook-off next year as it had worked well in the past.

NEW BUSINESS: Calcutta Oct. 5. Will start decorating at 1 p.m. Friday. Sign up sheet was passed around. We expect around 70 tickets to attend. A power point presentation featuring the attending businesses will play during the event.

Moonlight Madness and Appreciation Supper, Thurs., Oct. 17, Thee Garage, 4:30 - 7p.m. Passed around a sign up sheet for servers

Downtown trick or treat on Halloween, 3-6 p.m. Chamber has teal bags made that were left over from last year. Chamber and SMART will combine. SMART will purchase candy. Dean suggested using the Randash corner lot to avoid kids running across the street to the Bank. He has contacted a Randash family member, but hasn’t heard back from anyone yet. Pam Owens said we can use their parking lot on Main Street and we will use Russell’s parking lot once again.

REPORTS:

Dean Wang reported the Women’s Ranch Rodeo brought around 50 contestants to town for 2 days.

Pam Owens: Bars are still really busy and in need of employees. Some are having to close days due to the shortage.

Nick Schumacher, Plevna School: Enrollment is up and increasing every week. Music Dept. went to Devils Tower to perform. Junior High basketball has started. FFA Dept. is having a job fair in mid-November. The FFA will help serve at the Plevna Fire Dept. Pancake & Sausage Supper. He has been working on grants. They applied for a Dept. of Commerce Developing Local Assistance grant to upgrade the HVAC system and a Transformational/Learning Grant from OPI. They are half way thru the 1st quarter.

JoDee Pratt, Mayor of City of Baker: She would like to light up and decorate the City Park for Christmas holiday. Asked if other businesses would want to decorate a tree in the park. She asked the Boy Scouts about serving hot chocolate and food for the tree lighting event. She would like to do it the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The city is going forward on an SID for streets. They are working on grants for water mains. Cleanup days are going on now thru Oct. 14.

Karol Zachmann, Fallon Medical Complex: Xi Alpha Nu bazaar will be held Nov. 24 at Baker High School. Thanked everyone for supporting the Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon. FMC is doing a selfie contest on Pink Wednesdays thru October. Flu shots are available at Community Clinic weekdays 8-12 & 1-4:30. They will process your insurance for the shots. Fantasy Food Fair will be held Dec. 7. Festival of Trees will begin Nov. 25 and end with the Christmas Stroll. We need to firm up a date for the Stroll.

Steve Zachmann, EMEDA: Facade grants are available for businesses on Main Street and Hwy. 12.

Beth Epley, EPEDC: Has applied for City grants for water mains and planning grant to update zoning rules. Monday, members of the Dept. of Commerce will be here to see about a Main Street program. They will be in the library basement at 4 p.m. Nov. 2. The Assembly of God church along with other churches will host a ladies event with vendors and free lunch on Nov. 2.

Andrea Koenigsfeld, KFLN: They will have a live remote during Downtown Trick or Treat and on Santa day.

Shyla Hadley, Fair manager: the last Products of the Prairie will be Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11-1. A free will lunch will be held. Fair 2020 will be August 12-16. The State High School Rodeo Finals will be June 1-6. The next board meeting will be Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Shyla would like to hear what people want or would like to see for a Friday night show at the fair. Nov. 16 is the Wild Game Feed in the barn.

Some members will attend a planning meeting for the winter event with the city and EPEDC Thursday, Oct. 10 at noon at the SMART office.

Next meeting will be Nov. 7th at Thee Garage
